Treasure EP

Satoshi Fumi has been obsessively collecting synthesizers since the age of 13. Judging by this EP, he’s a man who likes his sounds space-age, which, when merged and melted together as adeptly as is done here, is no bad thing. The ‘Treasure EP’, Satoshi’s debut on Urbantorque Digital, comprises of four futuristic movements that will teleport you out of this world.

Launching the EP is ‘Shift’, pure transcendental cosmic disco that sounds like the soundtrack to a journey through the Milky Way. Funky, spacey and atmospheric, it’s a bit of an epic. Next up, ‘Treasure’ takes things dreamy and deep with elegant, soft and soothing pads; to say it’s ‘beautiful’ doesn’t really do it justice. ‘So Far’ is a bumpier ride through the galaxies. While maintaining the space-age echoes and twinkles, it’s injected with a bit of Chicago boompty for a fresh angle. The EP is then brought in to land by ‘Plug’, a sparse techno number more aggressive than its counterparts; it shoots and stabs with venom.

This is not the first time that the other-worldly talents of Satoshi Fumi have been picked-up on. His form to date includes 2002’s ‘Protlex’ released on Yoshitoshi as Satoshi Fume and ‘Dub Beatlex’ which was licensed for Desyn Masiello’s ‘Symphonic’ DJ Mag compilation and Phil K’s ‘Balance 004’ (EQ / Stomp) mix. On the evidence of the ‘Treasure EP’ this will not be the last of Satoshi’s cosmic forays that we hear either.

Without wanting to get too gloom and doom, it’s nice to know that there are still musicians out there who can create music to lift us out of this messed-up world. If you’re game, Satoshi’s up for leading you on his cosmic adventure. It’s perhaps not big or clever, but it’s fun. Ready? Set your lasers to stun.
