Stealth EP

Every now and again a producer comes along who demands some attention. Tipped by iDJ Magazine as ‘one to watch’ in 2007, Club Class resident Sam Ball is one of these. His debut EP on Urbantorque ‘Double Vision’ hit number 4 in the DJ Download Top 10 and reached 3rd spot in the Juno electro chart. It wasn’t a fluke. Like many aspiring producers Sam cites house and techno legends such as Laurent Garnier, Sasha and Nathan Coles as influences, but rather than mimicking, Sam is forging his own sound blending house, techno and electro to create music with depth and thrust, energy, intensity and emotion.

The ‘Stealth EP’ is yet more proof of Sam’s standout talent and blossoming potential on which he confidently collages genres, sounds and moods. Opening track ‘Stealth’ mixes the sinister with the uplifting as ominous punchy loops are juxtaposed by light, airy echoed chords. ‘PO Box’ is a piece of cutting pulsating techno. Layer upon layer is steadily stacked to build a bad ass tower of sounds that points straight at the dancefloor. It’s effective and persuasive. The EP concludes with ‘Almond’, a slightly ravey number which again contrasts a moody undercurrent with a quirky, fun, old-skool sounding melody.

In 2006 Sam’s turned heads and been identified as a promising talent, 2007 is the year in which he’s set to deliver. The ‘Stealth EP’ will kick off his year the way he means to go on: bold and upfront. With two more killer EPs on Urbantorque already scheduled as well as remix projects, club dates with Club Class and other guest appearances, and the continuation of his own night Undercurrent, it’s going to be a busy and productive year for the Sasha fan from Maidstone. One to watch indeed, certainly one to dance to.
