Time is a great teacher, and Mike Miller wisely bade his time, watching and learning, before entering into music production. Having notched up over fifteen years experience behind the decks and five years working within the industry, Mike is something of a dance music veteran, and for the last few years he’s been pouring his experience and astute knowledge into some very fine productions. ‘posh swag’ is a case in point, a rich and astutely composed piece of music with a brilliantly distinct oddness to it, it’s far from run-of-the-mill. A tense and teasing remix from rising star Jim Rivers ensures that this is a record not to be missed out.

Hailing from Ireland, but now living in Liverpool, Mike’s DJing skills have brought him the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland, and regularly further a field throughout Europe & beyond. Having worked as a label manager for prestigious labels such as James Holden’s Border Community at 3Beat Label Mgnt Ltd and establishing his own imprints 3Beatbreaks and Maris Music, Mike is now Head of Labels & Licensing for acclaimed management company AnD Press and its sister companies 24 Management and Club Class Music Management.

Taking time out from a busy industry job to hit the studio may be hard for Mike to do, but the results are pretty astounding. ‘posh swag’ is a fine delicacy of a tune, well-heeled and well made. Originally promo-ed in Miami earlier in the year, the track got a big thumbs up from Laurent Garnier, Demi (SOS) and Pete Gooding, and it’s not hard to see why. It casually grooves at a lazy, almost arrogant pace building towards the addition of quirky zips and whips, digital fuzzes and lavishly deep synths. Made with intelligence and a sense of fun, ‘posh swag’ is simply genius.

The remix comes courtesy of Jim Rivers whose recently been making his mark with widely applauded releases on Saw, EQ Grey, Cr2 and Saved and some top draw remixes including his working of Nic Fanciulli’s ‘Cat Out of the Bag’ on Renaissance. Jim injects a glitchy, testy tension to the track, giving it a darker, more intense sound. Subtly building to a short snippet of the signature quirky melody of the original; it’s one to rock the floor late into the night.

Infectious and fun, ‘posh swag’ is not quickly forgotten. The catchy groove and quirky sounds will stick. Like we said, it’s not run-of-the-mill; it’s something a bit special. Mike Miller’s shown he really does know his stuff and can translate this into producing a stand-out track, and Jim Rivers has pulled the cat out of the bag once again on remix duties. A sound release, ‘posh swag’ demands a wise investment.
