Numbling EP

Another great release from Urbantorque and another fantastic new artist added to their stable of forward-thinking producers. The Numbling EP by I Am An Exit is a fine offering of powerfully deep and emotive electronic music.

It is the third of Urbantorque’s digital only releases aimed at providing the opportunity to showcase fresh talent, and I Am An Exit certainly is exciting fresh talent. Hailing from somewhere in Ireland around the Dublin area I Am An Exit is an entity created by Brendan Gregoriy, who also adopts the alias Chymera, under which he has a number of forthcoming releases, including one on Josh Wink’s Ovum label. But it’s Urbantorque who get to proudly present the three beautifully refreshing tracks on the Numbling EP.

Track 1, ‘Matcsh’, bears the hallmarks of a master craftsman, carefully constructed and thoughtfully layered. Its floaty melody is complimented by a simple but to-die-for bassline, and once this drops you know you’ve got a TUNE on your hands! Next up is ‘Numb’, a piece of twinkley minimal beauty in the vain of Ame’s ‘Rej’, wonderfully soothing and soulful. In contrast, the final track, ‘Titlting,’ has a more ominous, moody sound combining squelching bass with haunting piano loops. Not a track for the faint hearted!

I Am An Exit describes his output as “music to make heads think as well as feet move.” A charming notion from a producer of music with real charm. Maybe we’re under his spell, but we’re inclined to agree with him.
