Introducing Yorch, the oddly-named Spaniard who on his debut ‘Mental Encounter EP’ brings you deep electronic melodic techno with plenty of groove to move. While this is Yorch’s first solo release, he already has plenty of production experience tucked under his belt having collaborated with his friend Daniel Ferreira. Together as Clubbervision, an electronica / progressive outfit, the two have already notched up over 30 of their own productions and remixes, and their recent release ‘Blue Pills’ featured on Global Underground’s ‘Afterhours 3’ compilation. While the Clubervision project continues, Yorch has also decided to go it alone in order to develop and pursue his own particular take on electronic music. By the sound of the ‘Mental Encounter EP’ this personal take is a rather good one too: fusing depth and drive to create compelling atmospheric techno.
Title track ‘Mental Encounter’ is deep graceful techno, softly hypnotic but also engrossingly catchy with rave-esque organ loops that give the track an extra zip. ‘Egofoby’ is a more full-on affair. It menacingly stabs and grinds while an eerie melody creeps surreptitiously over the top; one for dark rooms. Online reviewers Pitch Invader agree, asserting that the track, “Just begs for you to find a dark corner of the dancefloor and royally lose it!” Bringing the EP to a close is the bubbling, effervescent ‘Self Disaster’ on which cheery synths rise and dive upon warbling bass; not, in fact, a disaster at all.
Yorch claims to strive to make something original and distinctive amidst the busy, cluttered streets and 4.5 million people inhabiting his home city of Madrid. The evidence of the ‘Mental Encounter EP’ with its blend of deep melody and driving energy suggest the Madrileño is well on his way to achieving this goal, and without a castanet in sight! It’s vigorous engaging feet-moving electronic dance music, ignored at the dancefloor’s peril. So what’s with the name? Apparently, Yorch is a childhood nickname, resurrected for our aural pleasure. With tunes like these he’d have been king of the playground.
Reviews:
“A three track EP from the darker side of the dancefloor… Another strong release from a label at the top of their game.” Pitch Invader
