Homeless EP

The label champions emotive and textured house music, and the ‘Homeless EP’ fits this bill very nicely. This is the fourth of UT’s digital-only releases, an initiative aimed at showcasing new talent, and while, with a string of productions under his belt under pseudonyms Section One, Similarmind, Rotary Outputs and The M Men, Mikael is not quite unbroken talent, with tracks as good as these the Swedishman certainly deserves a larger platform.

The EP opens with the deep, thoughtful beauty of ‘Homeless,’ its cascading melodies a gentle reminder of just how special house music can be. This is followed by ‘Beat Orb’, a more menacing cut on an electro-house tip. Its acidic loops promise to writhe and twist the dancefloor into a frenzy. Last up, and in juxtaposition to ‘Beat Orb’, comes the melancholic simplicity of ‘Easy Access.’ Mikael builds this track slowly and then pulls out a breakdown that tugs at the heart strings and maybe even mists the eyes; it’s emotional stuff.
