Dreamer EP

Sometimes it’s good to go back to your roots. Urbantorque have been proudly championing quality melodic electronic music of all kinds of late, but with Steve Ferrand’s ‘dreamer EP’ the label returns to deep and sublime proper house music. Steve’s already displayed his inventive and innovative approach to production, teaming up with Vincenzo on the acclaimed tech-house of ‘Things Like That’ (Dessous Recordings) and turning out an ingenious broken beat remix of François DuBois’ ‘I Try.’ This fresh and imaginative outlook has now been channelled into a solo EP, and on the ‘dreamer EP’ Steve creatively coaxes with four inspirational house tracks.

The EP opens with ‘The Music,’ a bubbling, swelling, swinging, textured house track that oozes charm and musicality. An opulent treat, it just sounds great wherever it’s played: beach, club, or your living room. ‘Allnight’ holds a more sinister air. Its creepy chimes and eerie synths are lifted by a wicked groove that threatens to bite unless you dance.

Title track ‘dreamer’ samples academics lecturing on the study of dreams over a tensely dreamy soundtrack; a brilliantly intense and absorbing listening experience. Steve completes the EP with a soft and gentle touch through the succulent, soul-soothing ambience of ‘Getting There.’ It is simply graceful, refreshing house music at its finest.

Yet again Urbantorque have brought into the fold a producer with an imaginative and inclusive outlook. Steve Ferrand has confirmed on the ‘dreamer EP’ the originality and flair apparent in his François DuBois mix with four superbly provocative tracks. Deep, musical and distinct, each track will work its own magic. House music: it’s what we all need!
